Connecting who we are and what we attract

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

In Dave Veale’s most recent Leadership Unleashed interview he talks to Michael Losier, author of the best selling book, The Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don’t.

This is truly the story of a home town boy making it big. Really big. Originally from Saint John, Michael Losier released his first book in 2003 and it has sold more that 1.8 million copies in 33 languages and caught the attention of Oprah Winfrey. It is the ultimate how-to for applying the Law of Attraction to your personal and business life. And Michael is the ultimate how-to guy for the Law of Attraction.

The full interview with Michael was published in the Telegraph-Journal on Saturday, January 18th, 2014…here it is:

Turning a passion into a thriving career and bestseller

Michael Losier

This is the story of a hometown boy making it big.Really big.Originally from Saint John, Michael Losier is the author of the bestselling book Law of attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don’t. Released in 2003, his book has sold more that 1.8 million copies in 33 languages and caught the attention of Oprah Winfrey. It is the how-to for applying the law of attraction to your personal and business life.

Losier began his career working for the government in British Columbia, which sent him on many management and motivation courses, supporting the foundation for his career as a teacher, trainer and author. He was introduced tothe law of attraction in 1998 and slowly turned his passion for this philosophy into a thriving career that just keeps growing. Losier went from teaching small groups in his home to training hundreds of people at a time via conference calls, and eventually to delivering seminars around the world.

I had the pleasure of catching up with Losier on his recent visit to Saint John. I was very curious about the origins of his book and how it evolved from a grassroots movement into a bestselling sensation.

A: I started a group in my home, just me and another law of attraction practitioner.Within one year we had 44 people coming to my house. I did that for two years. Then I started a company called TeleClass International – a catalogue of people doing teleclasses (a class taught remotely by means of a conference call). I certified 1,200 people on how to be teleclass leaders and I was doing classes on law of attraction once a week. I was still working for the government at the time but only four days a week.

Q: Was there a pivotal moment that led to concentrating on the law of attraction work more than just one day per week?

A: Near the end of my government term I went to a lunch-hour seminar and there was a motivational speaker there.I told him“I would love to do what you do” and he told me it would be easier if I had a book. I didn’t have a book at the time but I had an eight-inch binder at home on all my processes and what I was doing in seminars. You couldn’t even find a book on the subject of law of attraction at the time. I took this eight-inch binder, worked on it for two years and turned it into a 144-page book. I didn’t create the concept of law of attraction, but I made it “how-to”friendly.

Q: Tell my about your book. How does it read?

A: My book is laid out like a seminar. You could take this book and hold a seminar. Step one, step two and so on. It’s a simple process.

Q: How many books have you sold to date?

A: 1.8 million books sold to date, in 33 languages. I actually sold about 200,000 on my own, just from doing online sales and seminars.

Q: How did you manage to sell this many books on your own?

A: My strategy, even with my third book, is to create the book cover first. I had my first book cover done two years before I wrote the book. Then I built a list of people interested in purchasing the book. After each teleclass I would send people to my website to get the class notes and there was a link that said, “Notify me when your book is available.” I collected about 3,500 names within a year and a half. Then I did the first version of the book. I got it printed in Winnipeg. I didn’t have a lot of money, so I put the printing cost on my credit card. That night I sent an email out to around 2,800 people. I sold every book before they were delivered to me.

Q: How on earth did you go from the first order of 2,800 books to selling 200,000 books?

A: People started to order 10 packs and 15 packs and there were people in network marketing companies who were ordering by the case (76 books). So it was crazy. That’s how my book became famous. It was all underground and all because of the teleclasses. People were understanding the concept and also getting the results.

Q: Would you say the theme of the book is universal?

A: Yes, it’s really just about positive thinking, setting positive vibes and the way I explain it doesn’t seem to offend anybody. I wasn’t asking anyone to stop their belief system – the law of attraction complements other belief systems.

Q: How do you handle skeptics?

A: I only attract people who are interested in the law of attraction. I don’t attract people who don’t want to understand it and I don’t try to convince people that it exists.

Q: Tell me about your experience working with Oprah Winfrey.

A: She interviewed me four times on her radio show. I was the most interviewed guest she ever had. My book went to No. 3 on Amazon and it stayed there for six months. I was selling 2,200 books a day for three months during that time.

Q: What was it like to be interviewed by someone like Oprah?

A: I had lots of experience from the teleclasses and even though I knew it was Oprah, it didn’t sound like her. So, I wasn’t star struck. I was excited – don’t get me wrong. I was on her radio station with her “Soul Series” for 30 days and my book went wild.

Q: What do you want to “attract” to your life in the near future?

A: I’ll tell you my real intention: it’s to have my own show on the OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) channel. So, in a year, if you hear I’m having my show then you will know I’ve been successful.
